The Obstacle Is the Way
Marcus Aurelius wrote: “The impediment to action advances action. What stands in the way becomes the way.” We often think we need perfect conditions to make progress—more time, more money, more motivation, fewer problems. But Stoic philosophy teaches the opposite: the obstacle itself can become part of our growth. A difficult task teaches discipline. A failure teaches adjustment. A delay teaches patience. The lesson: Don’t wait for the road to become easier. Learn how to walk the road in front of you.
